HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. ¿ MKM, a Huntington Beach, Calif.-based sports marketing and public relations firm has been retained by Park City Mountain Resort to handle media relations for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. The addition of Park City Mountain Resort and the Olympic Games compliments MKM’s growing roster of national and international clients and events, which include International Management Group (IMG), dmg world media, EMAP USA, Bluetorch TV and the prestigious Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.
Park City Mountain Resort is an official venue for the 2002 Winter Games and will host men’s and women’s alpine giant slalom skiing and all men’s and women’s snowboarding events, Feb. 8 to 24. MKM will work closely with the resort and its roster of world-class athletes including Olympic Gold Medalist Picabo Street, America’s top-ranked skier Erik Schlopy, Olympic bobsledder and two-time cancer survivor Ildiko Strehl and skiercross world champion Megan Brown.
With a year-round offering of mountain recreation activities and facilities, Park City Mountain Resort has invested millions of dollars in pre-Olympic upgrades and is banking on MKM’s expertise.

This past July, MKM played a significant role in International Management Group’s (IMG) expansion into the action sports arena. IMG paired the recently purchased U.S. Open of Surfing, America’s largest professional surfing competition, with several action sports, music and technology to create the two-event Philips Fusion series. Following record-breaking attendance in Huntington Beach, Calif., the series culminates Sept. 29-30 in New York, NY. IMG is the world’s oldest and largest sports marketing organization, with nearly 3,000 employees operating from offices in 85 cities in 33 countries.

The company also recently completed a successful national “re-launch” project for Irvine, Calif-based Bluetorch. Bluetorch offers unique daily television programming, live events, home videos, online and interactive TV entertainment for the youth culture. Bluetorch TV has quickly become Fox Sports Net’s most popular show for the highly sought 12-to-34-year-old audience.
MKM’s final event of 2001, the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, is the world’s preeminent big wave series. Staged at three of Hawaii’s renowned North Shore big wave venues, the Vans Triple Crown hosts the final World Qualifying Series (WQS), World Championship Tour (WCT) and Specialty events on the pro surfing calendar, Nov. 12 to Dec. 21, and will crown the men’s and women’s world champions. The series culminates with the Xbox Pipeline Maasters, staged at infamous Banzai Pipeline, celebrating its 31st year as the world’s longest running and most famous “tube” riding competition.
