Sherman Oaks, CA – The American Snowboard Tour (AST), the nation’s longest running professional and amateur snowboard tour will bring it’s high flying contest action to June Mountain resort January 21 & 22. The world’s top snowboarders will get to ride park and pipe guru Eric Rosenwald’s epic Superpipe on January 21st and then test the jumps and rails in a Slopestyle contest on January 22nd.

Rider’s will compete for their share of $100,000 in tour prize money and the Paul Mitchell Rider’s Cup bonus pool, awarded to the top male and female competitors on the tour’s 3 stops. The Paul Mitchell Rider’s Cup champions will also receive an invitation to the 2004 Winter X-Games.

The Honda Element American Snowboard Tour has been the training ground for many of America’s top professional and Olympic snowboarders for more than a decade. Rider’s who have cut their competition teeth on AST tour include 2002 Olympic medallist’s Ross Powers (Gold), Danny Kass (Silver) and J.J. Thomas (Bronze) as well as 2002 U.S. Olympic Team member Tricia Byrnes. All are expected to compete in the upcoming Honda Element AST contest.

In addition to the snowboard contest, the premier event of the Paul Mitchell “Huck & Roll” freestyle ski invitational will be held featuring the world’s best freestyle “Huckster’s” in superpipe and slopeststyle contests. Confirmed competitor?s include Phil Larose and Phil Belanger, Tanner Hall, J.F. Cussom, C.R. Johnson and Mammoth?s Rory Silva as well as the top two female competitors, Sarah Burke and Kristy Leskinem.

The 2003 Honda Element American Snowboard Tour at June Mountain will be televised in three separate episodes of “Fusion Television,” a 1-hour weekly alternative sports program on Fox Sports Net on Wednesday’s from 4:00 – 5:00 pm in all time zones. Episodes from June Mountain will feature men?s and women?s snowboarding in the superpipe, men?s snowboard slopestyle and a third show featuring the Paul Mitchell ?Huck & Roll? freestyle skiing contest. Shows are also repeated the same day at 11:00 am and 2:00 am. Check local listings for specific airdates. The Honda Element American Snowboard Tour will visit two other premier resorts in addition to June Mountain in 2003. The remaining two stops of the Honda Element AST will take place over two consecutive weeks, first at Big Bear Mountain, CA on February 22 & 23 and then on March 1 & 2 at Sugar Bowl Resort near Lake Tahoe. The Big Bear Mountain event will offer a Big Air competition on Saturday, February 22 and Superpipe on Sunday, February 23rd. The Honda Element AST will finish it’s 2003 season at Sugar Bowl Resort on March 1 & 2 with a Superpipe contest on Saturday, March 1st and Parallel Giant Slalom on Sunday March 2nd.

Riders will compete for over $100,000 in prize money in the Honda Element American Snowboard Tour, a 20% increase over last season. Paul Mitchell will also fund a “Rider’s Cup” bonus pool that award $5,000 to overall men’s half-pipe champion and $3,000 to the women’s half-pipe champion calculated from finishes at all three events.

The AST events are sanctioned by the United States Snowboard Association (USSA) and are “Continental Cup” level FIS events, the highest rating available in North America. The AST is be open to all competitors but requires a USSA membership to compete.
