PS2 / Xbox / Game Boy Advance
OVERVIEW: Work your way up through the ranks by playing against the worst poker players imaginable. Even the pros play like amateurs in this one.
GAME MODES: Single player (Satellite game, Super Satellite, and Tournament Finale)
MULTIPLAYER/ONLINE: Multiplayer for online only. Up to 6 players.
GAMEPLAY: Pick your poison — No Limit Texas Hold ‘Em, Super Hold ‘Em, Five Card Draw, Seven-Card Stud, Limit Texas Hold ‘Em, Omaha, Pineapple, Crazy Pineapple, Tahoe, Shanghai, Billabong, or Hi/Lo Rules. If you’re not sure how to play, don’t worry. There are plenty of instructions, including a Boot Camp if you need a quick overview. Once play begins you’ll get the hang of it right away. The controls are simple. This is a fun game if you’re looking to pass time, but if you are serious about poker I wouldn’t bother. Even when I made it to the final tournament I slaughtered everyone pretty easily. Granted, I play poker on a weekly basis and well, I’m kind of a big deal.
GRAPHICS: They are pretty bad, but why do you need insane graphics for poker anyway? The first time I played I created my own character. She was suppose to be a woman, but when I was finished she looked like a cross between Howard Stern and Danny DeVito. The facial shading is creepy. No matter how you design your player, they end up having a 5 o’clock shadow and dark bags under their eyes. I find myself feeling sorry for them. All I want to do is give ’em a glass of scotch and a Virginia Slim.
SOUND: At a table of six at least two people will have the same voice. I think there are only four of five programmed for the entire game. You know you’ve hit the jackpot when the cowboy and the Rastafarian have the same accent.
