There’s no secret to success in today’s tough retail market, it’s service. More specifically, boot-fit service. It’s what keeps customers coming back to shops even when someone else in town may be selling for less.

You can learn to become a better bootfitter from the industry’s top pros at the SNOWboarding Business/Ski Magazine MasterFit University (MFU) presented by Rohner, the snowsports industry’s leading training course. Now title-sponsored by SNOWboarding Business as well as Ski Magazine, MFU sessions will be held in six locations across North America beginning in early October (Sites and dates below.)

“We’re excited about our affiliation with SNOWboarding Business,” said MFU marketing director Steve Cohen. “Snowboarding shops are becoming more sophisticated and their customers more demanding. Retailers need to have more knowledge and skills to get their customers dialed in. Top notch bootfitting will be the cornerstone of successful shops in the future.”

MasterFit U. offers both two-day Masters and one-day Associate courses to provide a full range of educational opportunities for retail and rental shop operators. A highlight of the Masters Course is a series of elective breakout sessions where attendees can sharpen their skills in areas such as snowboard boot fitting and modification, stance alignment and footbed construction techniques.

“I don’t care if you’re just starting out or you’ve been fitting boots for twnety years, you’ll definitely come away from MasterFit U. with knowledge that will help you fit boots and run your shop better this winter,” says Bob Cavis, hardgoods buyer for Gorsuch Ltd. in Vail, Colorado.

Now in its eighth season, the Masters sessions is the only training course teaching elite ski and snowboard boot fitting and stance alignment techniques. All sessions are taught by the country’s leading Master Boot Technicians (see instructional staff roster below).

MasterFit graduates also receive exclusive benefits that assist them in selling and fitting boots long after the program ends including:

à‚• Comprehensive reference manuals.à‚• Framed diploma. à‚• National media exposure for attendees and their shops on the MasterFit, Ski Magazine and Transworld SNOWboarding websites. A list of all 2000 MFU graduates and their shops will be posted throughout the winter providing attendees with referrals. à‚• Emergency consultations. The MasterFit staff is available via e-mail or phone and consults with graduates who need help resolving difficult fit situations.

As the premiere boot tech training program, MasterFit U.’s Masters course stresses hands-on experience. Attendees are grouped in teams and use work stations equipped with the latest fitting tools and equipment. Each student in the Masters Course will complete a pair of custom footbeds and the opportunity to practice customization techniques on various boots during the seminar. The Master’s Course is the only snowsports training course approved for Continuing Education Credits (15.25 contact hours) by the Board for Certification in Pedorthics.
