Eddie’s Archive – Dirt From the Forum Video Days

This feature originally appeared in the November issue of TransWorld SNOWboarding Magazine, subscribe here.

Not too long ago, pro snowboarders had more responsibilities than you may think. Riders who were paid premium wages for their talents on hill, were also expected to uphold the sought-after lifestyles of pros, which often included ridiculous antics. Eddie Wall has seen it all and been through a bevy of insane times throughout his travels. This is a glimpse into his wild days on the Forum movie tours.

"TRAVIS PARTIED ALL NIGHT AT A STRIP CLUB…
AND THEN FRONT- BOARDED IT FIRST TRY."

Look closely and you can see Travis Kennedy strapping in atop a drop-in ramp at this rail in Stockholm. You may also recognize this heavy kink from Forum's That—it's Travis' ender from his opening part. Travis partied all night at a strip club, continuing until eight in the morning. He then took a taxi to the hotel, grabbed his gear, showed up at this rail to meet the rest of the crew, proceeded to drop in still drunk from the club, and front-boarded it first try. Travis has stories like this for days, but this one still blows me away.

"…WAITING FOR THE NEXT TRAIN TO HEAD TO THE NEXT PREMIERE, IN THE NEXT CITY, FOR THE NEXT PARTY."

The Forum premiere tours were crazy. We would be on the road for months, in a different city or country every night. You will generally see photos of everyone partying, but this photo sums up about 95 percent of what happened on tour—sitting on our bags in a train station, airport, or hotel for hours every day. No complaints, that's just how it was. In this photo, taken during the Video Gangs tour, Travis Kennedy, JP Walker, Lauri Heiskari, Joni Malmi, Pat Moore, and Peter Line all sit in a Japanese subway station waiting for the next train to head to the next premiere, in the next city, for the next party. I think my liver is still damaged from those schedules.

"THE ONLY THING SHE LIKED MORE THAN BAYWATCH WAS PRO SNOWBOARDERS."

If you happened to be at any snowboarding event in Japan between 2000 and 2010, you have probably heard the name "Japamela." This Japanese snowboard superfan was so obsessed with Pamela Anderson that she did everything she could to look exactly like her. She dyed her hair and got plastic surgery, breast implants, and even the same tattoos. The only thing she liked more than Baywatch was pro snowboarders. There are rumors she took a Polaroid of each one she hooked up with and put them in an album. If only we could get our hands on that book… P.S. Peter Line was just getting a photo; this Polaroid is not from her archives.

"EDDIE, TAKE A PHOTO OF ME. IT LOOKS LIKE WE ARE DESTROYING A HOTEL ROOM."

As I mentioned, Forum premiere tours would get out of hand. But Chad Otterstrom is a mellow guy, and on this particular night when we got back from a Video Gangs afterparty in Denver, Chad hopped into his bed to fall asleep, and the entire frame collapsed under him. He lifted up the mattress to see if he could fix it, and as he picked up the broken wood, I actually remember him saying, "Eddie, take a photo of me; it looks like we're destroying a hotel room." He started laughing, and I snapped the pic. He wasn't able to fix the bed. I guess it was just another charge that went onto the infamous Forum tab.
