Photos from a pow surfing party with Curtis Ciszek and Austin Smith deep in the Monashee Mountains of interior B.C. Canada.

The four days at the Canadian Mountain Holiday Monashee Lodge had us wishing it were a Canadian Holiday, everyday. It was truthfully some of the best riding we had ever experienced. We felt like we found the holy grail of snowboarding. It was bottomless everyday and there were more pillows here than a nationwide sorority slumber party. Seriously, the snow stacked up to create some of the most unique, drooping features I’d ever seen, and they were on every run. Plus, avy conditions were minimal so we rode wherever the heli could take us.

Austin, Curtis and the crew bounded like deer the whole way down. Yelps, hoots, and the noise of stoke echoed down every gully. Once the trees opened up, each run was like a massive rolling skatepark. “Ollies for days!” Yelled Curtis. (Wait for his GoPro commentary, it’s ridiculous). The undulating features were so damn fun to ride, and it was almost better for our health to not think about what laid beneath them. The couple cracked off pillows and cliffs day after day while we all choked on fresh powder and haggled the skiers in our group.

The riding was off the charts, but that’s only half of the equation. The lodge is deluxe and not a bad spot to spend a down day or two. (We had a couple). It has lakefront views, moose in the front yard and wolves howling in the evening. The gourmet kitchen constantly edged us towards gluttony. The climbing wall, wood-fired sauna, hot tub, and pub games kept us occupied. So did the German game of Nägel, where you take turns trying to smash a nail into a piece of wood with a pointy hammer. (Beer helps for this one.) Entertainment takes on a whole new meaning when you’re cooped up in the woods.

For a few dirtbags like Austin and Curtis it was a pretty nice five-star recharge before diving back into the rigors of filming and winter life on the road. It definitely made us all ponder million-dollar ideas, inventions, investments and ways to save up so we could ride here on a regular basis. Because a couple days of chasing pow with a helicopter to can easily change your life. It certainly changed ours.
