The weekend after Thanksgiving, starting November 27th, 2009, was a bonus day for reflecting on what I am thankful for. The Canyons officially opened for the season, and those not too stuffed from the night before were served hearty helpings of immaculate groomers and a fun park. As the largest resort in Utah, it’s was kind of a bummer to only see two lifts and the gondola running, but the snow guns were blasting and the vibe was good. In true Thanksgiving steelo, as locals, we were just happy that no “pilgrims” came to give us N1H1 sickness and steal all our gear.
Steve Duke and the park crew at The Canyons is what everybody seemed most thankful for over the weekend. The park was constantly being maintained as stories of new rails and boxes floated amongst the hard fact that the crew spent a good part of their summer building and beefing up not one, but two step-down/road gap lines with three hit apiece in the Respect Terrain Park.
If you’ve been rode The Canyons before, then you know what’s up, but if you haven’t, come check this under the radar resort. Epic backcountry, zero scene, a top-notch park, and dope tree riding make this place a little secret you just might want to keep.
