BURTON SNOWBOARDS ENHANCES TEAM MANAGEMENT GROUP3/5/02

Burlington, VT – Most snowboarders dream about becoming pro riders. Pros get paid to ride, travel the globe and throw down in the world’s greatest snowboarding contests ¿ pretty sick job description. But the life of a pro isn’t all fresh pow and trips to the podium. There are budgets, travel arrangements, photo shoots, contracts and media appearances to manage. And that’s where Burton’s Team Management group comes in. Team Managers are on the front lines of the snowboarding industry, traveling with pro riders and assisting with most aspects of their careers.

To head up Burton’s Team Management group, former European Team Manager René Hansen will assume a new role as the Global Team Director. Hansen will relocate to Burton’s Vermont headquarters in April. According to Vice President and Director of Marketing David Schriber, Rene has the skills to get the job done. “The Euro team René has developed is the best we’ve ever had. We’re bringing René to the U.S. to repeat his success with the North American team,” says Schriber.

Hansen will be responsible for the overall strategic direction of Burton’s Global Team, attracting and retaining top riders and ensuring the company’s return on team investments. He will oversee Burton Team Managers worldwide, as well as Global Team riders. Hansen has extensive experience with the international snowboard industry, team management and marketing communications. His leadership will help promote the success of Burton’s Global Team riders.

Sean Lake is a relatively new addition to the Burton Team Management group. He will oversee the North American Rookie Team as well as service Burton’s Global Team when they’re on the West Coast. Lake will be working out of Burton’s Dana Point, California office where his tasks will include assisting global and rookie riders with their film roles, photo shoots and editorial coverage. He will also be responsible for offering career advice to the riders and strengthening communications between the team and Burton headquarters.

A professional snowboarder for five years, Sean was sponsored by a variety of companies including Vans shoes, Barfoot Snowboards, Scott USA, Nirve Sports, Generator Distribution, Snowbird Ski Resort and Canyons Resort. He recently graduated from the University of Utah with a BS in Political Science. Besides his professional snowboarding experience, he also helped support a successful Utah State Congressional re-election campaign. Even professional snowboarding involves politics, so Sean’s past political experiences will prove valuable in his new position.
