LAAX, Switzerland – Switzerland’s Therry Brunner won the men’s halfpipe and Japan’s Soko Yamaoka claimed the women’s title at the first World Cup meet of the season.

Brunner used a near-perfect second run on the 18-foot pipe to beat Germany’s Xaver Hoffmann and Sweden’s Magnus Sterner.

Yamaoka beat Switzerland’s Manuela Pesko and Olympic bronze medalist Fabienne Reuteler.
