Blax Becomes Head Snowboards Munich, January 2001 — The established ski and tennis company HEAD and the snowboard brand BLAX have formed the platform for HEAD SNOWBOARDS. The new division of the HEAD World of Sports will continue to be run by the BLAX team, which means that the profile and most important elements of the BLAX brand will remain.

The combination of the acceptance and credibility of BLAX and the technological innovative and strong HEAD brand offers numerous synergies for establishing HEAD SNOWBOARDS as an internationally competitive snowboard brand with claims to one of the top positions in the market.

The strong partner in the background, as well as the related financial situation, offer the possibility of expanding communications and product development for the first time.

As a result, comprehensive marketing measures can be translated into action and the rider team can be reorganized and expanded. Communications will receive a new dimension.

The capacities within product development will be enlarged in order to combine the potential of BLAX and the HTM Group and make optimal use of them. High standards of quality, technology and design will be guaranteed through the integration of production into the HTM Group’s own production process.

Two of the founders of BLAX & Generics, who now also stand behind HEAD SNOWBOARDS, became acquainted while working together at Mistral: Klaus Thurner and Charly Messmer.

In 1990/91, they acquired the license for Mistral Snowboards. One year later, they developed hardboots for the first time under the name of BLAX Hardboots. In 1993/94, the change from Mistral Snowboards was followed by the launch of the Generics Snowboards brand. In the following years, both of these brands were able to establish themselves on the snowboard market and were taken over by the HTM Group in 1999.

Up to now, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Japan have been the strongest markets for these products.
