Aussie teenagers Robbie Walker and Mitchell Allan haveoutclassed an international field of snowboarders by taking first andsecond place in the Billabong Snowstock open men’s division at Mount Hothamon Saturday. The upset forced tournament favourite, Kurt Wastell of SaltLake City, USA to settle for third place in the slopestyle event.

In Mount Hotham’s specialty built terrain park, described by competitors aseasily the best seen in Australia 18-year-old Walker turned on anexceptional performance to post the first major victory of his career.Walker rode strongly throughout the two day event qualifying in 3rdposition behind Clint Allan and Kurt Wastell for the 8 man final in whichhe made the most of the two run format by nailing a near perfect first runthat would see him collect the $2000 winner’s cheque.

15-year-old Mitchell Allan also made the most of his finals berth managinga career high with his runner-up placing and proving in the process thathe’s an emerging force on the Australian snowboarding scene.

Experience paid off in the women’s division with 32-year-old Emily Thomasdominating her younger rivals with a fearless showing. The North Narrabeencompetitor was the only female to hit the biggest jump in the slopestylecourse and left 16-year old Hannah Trigger (Mornington Peninsular, Vic) insecond and American Macy Price 3(superscript: rd).
