Seefeld/Tirol – David Benedek has become the first German to win one of the world’s most distinguished snowboard events. This 22-year old ratiopharm snowboard team member from Munich has long enjoyed the status of best freestyler, but this victory has catapulted him into the crème de la crème of international snowboarding. Benedek has already attained several top placings in Air & Style; this time he delivered a perfect performance and deservedly sumitted the Mount Olympus of snowboarding. This view is shared by eleven thousand spectators and 350 international media agents.

David Benedek after his victory:

“Of course, I’m delighted to have won one of the world’s most distinguished snowboard events. This new competition format, away from the pure straight jump and more towards the slope style, is what was needed to raise snowboarding onto a higher level – all riders see it that way too. It was a fantastic crowd, a fantastic event with an unbelievable outcome for me — a dream come true”.

NOKIA Air & Style did indeed appear this year in a completely new guise. Air & Style has always been known as a pure straight jump contest — this year it sported several new elements including various different kickers, rails, cornerpipes and walls. This enhanced the style of the riders – techniques and acrobatics are no longer the only elements to create a victory. The guest riders also clearly enjoyed this new format. Alongside the extremely positive comments, the riders went on to deliver a perfect show and clearly had fun adding a new twist. The organisers around Air & Style founder Andrew Hourmont appeared happy and satisfied to have staged another successful and safe event.

Andrew Hourmont, organiser and founder of the Air & Style:

“Air & Style has arrived where the riders, the crowd and we as organisers want it — the next level in snowboarding has been accomplished. The new themes to Air & Style were welcomed by the riders, the media and the crowd alike. I am delighted we managed to do it and were able to deliver a spectacular event, with no compromise on safety. I would like to thank the riders who have achieved the unbelievable, the fantastic crowd and of course our entire crew, who got this event off the ground and made it possible.
