Airwalk Dials In Design

Golden, Colorado, March 16, 2000 . . . Stemming from an aggressive growth campaign, AIRWALK has expanded its footwear design initiative by adding two experienced footwear designers to its product creation department. Consistent with recent movement within AIRWALK’s marketing department, the recreated design team is committed to reclaiming the AIRWALK brand’s leadership position among action sports enthusiasts.

According to Mitch Brabson, Vice President of Sourcing, Product Design and Development, AIRWALK’s product creation department is better suited than ever to take the youth lifestyle and action sports markets by storm. “The uniqueness of AIRWALK’s designs has been an integral part of our success from the beginning. The formula that has historically worked best for us is the natural combination of our heritage and AIRWALK’s ongoing technological advances and advantages,” he said. “From the design of our first technical skate shoe in 1986, we have been the leader in action sports. We intend to continue this methodology in hyper-mode to reclaim and legitimize our leadership position.”

John Eades, Director of Footwear Design
A five-year veteran of footwear design, John Eades is at the helm of the new design team with his motivation being to cultivate AIRWALK’S heritage and focus it upon the progression of technical and signature action sports product. He will manage the benefits of a strong internal team combined with select outside design resources. Armed with an aggressive approach to new product lines and concepts, Eades is an active player in the lifestyle that AIRWALK caters to. In choosing team members, Eades is seeking and securing designers who participate in action sports, and who can draw ideas from their personal experiences.

Kathy Santos, Footwear Design Manager
A Massachusetts native, Kathy Santos oversees the day-to-day aspects of design for AIRWALK. Santos has been active as a designer in the footwear industry for 3 years, specializing in the rugged outdoor sports footwear category. Santos’ main responsibilities will be to perform all operations associated with footwear design while ensuring that footwear remains consistent with the AIRWALK feel and integrates effectively into the brand’s unique personality.

David DeZur, Footwear Designer
David DeZur has spent the past 2 1/2 years in a variety of engineering and design capacities, including work in the medical, architectural, consumer, industrial and footwear design fields. An avid snowboarder, DeZur moved to Colorado from Wisconsin to make snowboarding a greater part of his lifestyle. In keeping with the concept of lifestyle and experience application, David will integrate his personal passion for action sports into his design work. In his role as footwear designer, DeZur is performing hands-on design tasks including technical drawings, conceptual sketches and material and trend studies.
