S-One Insole Technology introduces five new styles for the ’99/00 season. The Team Design insole (retail eighteen to twenty dollars) is designed to improve overall boot comfort and absorb shock in the heel area. The Anatom insole (retail 25 to 30 dollars) is a trim-to-fit insole that does not conform to the rider’s foot but rather realigns the foot to its natural control point.

The Custom Mid (retail 40 to 50 dollars) has a heat-moldable thermoplastic base that extends from the heel to the mid-foot area and provides a deep heel cup and custom-molded arch support. A thin layer of CSR material in the toe area provides long lasting comfort. The thermoplastic base can be reheated up to ten times to make sure the fit is perfect.

The Custom Full (retail 60 to 80 dollars) has a heat-moldable thermoplastic base that extends from the heel to toe. This insole is custom-molded to the rider’s foot and is designed to reduce foot slippage, fallen arches, and heel lift. The thermoplastic layer contains a layer of S-One’s patented Absorbo material and a Deocide terry lining.

The All Purpose (retail fourteen to sixteen dollars) features S-One’s CSR material and Absorbo heel pad to provide arch support, comfort, and shock absorption in snowboard boots, skateboarding footwear, and hiking boots.

All the new styles are also available in women’s and children’s sizes. After increased demand, S-One’s ’99/00 apparel line consists of short- and long-sleeved T-shirts, crew, hooded, zip-up hooded sweatshirts, and two different styles of technical backpacks.

Also available through S-One are Rob Ricci’s upcoming film Society 2 and John Sommers’ snowboard documentary Snow Taxi.

Boards

Salomon will be offering several new models for the ’99/00 season. The new W3 and W4 are wider boards with deep sidecuts and feature new core technology and the new HTC 1 bindings.

Pro models are claiming their space with the introduction of the Daniel Franck 153 and the Michele Taggart 154. Both feature the Isowood II core, a new lighter-weight snappier core. For riders looking for specialized benefits Salomon offers FS (freestyle), FRA (freeride adventure), and the FRS (freeride speed). All three models utilize the Carbon Unibody, Isowood II Core, Galium Bases, and HTC Technology. All models have specific shapes, flex, and VSG (variable sidewall geometry) to offer the specialized rider uncompromised performance.

The core of the line is the 250, 350, 450, and 550 series, men’s and women’s boards that are solid all-mountain equipment designed to let riders push their limits in every condition. The 250s to 550s still offer Salomon’s unique Unibody Construction, second-generation woodcores (fifteen- to 25-percent lighter), seamless edges, and super-slippy bases. The 550 utilizes the Carbon Unibody Monocoque for ice-piecing edge hold and Cadillac smoothnessSalomon has added many new sizes and shapes to offer something for everybody.

Boots

For ’99/00 Salomon offers four conventional and four Pilot boots. The new Verse and Verse Pilot feature linerless construction and an efficient lacing system for supportive, secure envelopment. The new Malamute and Malamute Pilot are Salomon’s most powerful and responsive models using the Energy Frame, Sensifit lacing, Customfit liner, and Salomon’s exclusive Contagrip Sole. As an added safety measure the liners of the Malamute integrate a Recco avalanche safety system reflector.

The Dialogue Autofit and Synapse Autofit return in both conventional and Pilot systems. The Dialogue utilizes an overlap Autofit liner for tremendous heel-hold without pressure points. One tug on the Kevlar quicklace and this boot will fit you closer than your favorite pair of stretchpants. The Synapse Autofit and Synapse Pilot utilizes a central tongue Autofit liner for greater toe-side leverage, quicklace for greater foot envelopment, and a new aggressive natural rubber sole for hiking. All models are offered in women-specific and unisex-specific sizing.

Bindings

The new Pilot System and Advanced Strap Bindings share an evolution of proven ideas for total control, feel, and versatility. The Pilot System gives you power steering for your board. The Pilot power increases torque and creates a powerful lever-arm along the length of the board. The single external Pilot connection point is the power source. It also provides more control of the camber between your feet. For ’99/00, three Pilot Bindings will be available.

The P2 is a performance-oriented product that makes learning more convenient. The P4 features a rotational highback for precise heelside support and maximum lateral-medial freedom. The anatomical baseplate is reinforced with 45-percent fiberglass for quick edge-to-edge response and has inclined Honeycomb T-pads under the ball of foot and heel for vibration absorption and snow sensation.

The P5 Composite is the lightest in the Pilot series, offering all the benefits of the P4 plus a Twintex Composite Highback. It is higher, stiffer, and more supportive for the rider who rides faster and goes bigger.

Advanced strap binding technology is accomplished with the all-new S-Pro, featuring a new lightweight baseplate and an extra-tall highback that gives you up to 40 degrees of lean and uncompromised frontside support through the Pro-active strap. To cushion the ride, oversized, triple-density T-pads are used under the ball and heel of your foot.

The S5 is going through some changes to give even more toeside response and support using the oversized Active Strap. The S4 is being offered in both Shaped and Rotational highbacks and offers a new, lighter, taller Rotational II highback and non-stretch Active Straps for response and comfort.

S2 gives riders all the features at a great price. It has a stiff highback with forward lean adjustor, T-pads for snow sensation and shock absorption, double ratchet straps, and three sizes. S2 is a performance-oriented product that makes learning more convenient.
