MCLEAN, Va. (February , 2003) — Planning already has begun for the 2004 SIA SnowSports Show. The dates are January 26-29 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. “We informally announced this timeframe in October when the SIA board voted to keep the organization’s show in January,” said SIA President David Ingemie. “Now that the 2003 Show is over, we are starting to get questions about next year’s show and we want to make sure that everyone in our industry knows the dates.”
Next year marks the third year for the snow sports industry’s realigned “See it, Try it, Buy it” business cycle. The process began in 2002 when the SIA Show moved to a January timeframe to be held in conjunction with major buying group shows followed by regional on-snow demos and indoor shows organized by the industry’s various rep associations.
“The ultimate vision of this realignment was to make the business cycle more efficient and cost effective,” added Ingemie. “We knew from the beginning that this change would take from three to five years. We are continuing to work closely with the buying groups and rep associations on scheduling adjustments. We appreciate the patience and understanding of the entire industry and especially those involved in this difficult process. We also understand that there is a potential conflict with the Outdoor Retailer Show in 2004 and we are in contact with the management of that show to resolve this issue.”
The 2003 SIA SnowSports Show recently concluded its four-day run at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. The industry’s business cycle is now moving into the regional on-snow demo phase and will conclude by the end of March with a series of indoor regional rep shows.
