“Bongos … we heard bongos in the middle of the mountains … finally, we broke through the fog and entered what seemed another world. Up above, blue skies, but on the ground was one big festival, party.—Ralf P.

Thanks, Ralf, we had an awesome time too. Ralf was just one of the many who put grandma’s house on the backburner during Easter weekend to attend the First Annual Baldy Banked Slalom. Conditions on the hill were looking good, as the So Cal mountains had received a fresh layer of snow the night before. Saturday’s early morning fog cleared throughout the day and people in their vintage gear, costumes, and race bibs were ready for a full day of riding.

With over 50 people racing, the competition was deep to win Arbor snowboards, skateboards, apparel, and Mt. Baldy season passes. As the slalom course received its final grooming for the riders to blaze down, DJ Eric provided the beats on the outside Baldy deck with his turntable/bongo drum combo. The vibe was solid all day and the Arbor tent shared its love with 2007 demo snowboards.

The men’s race was a tight finish as first, second, and third place were separated by less than a second, but Andrew Marriner claimed first with a time of 1:13. Women’s winner, Jaime Donnelly, dominated the competition and finished in 1:18.

Special thanks to all who attended and to Ole Ellingson of Mt. Baldy for helping make this event not only possible, but also ridiculously fun. You know the Baldy Banked Slalom is coming back strong for years to come!
