Denver, Colorado—Old Man Winter has ushered the latest winter storm from the north directly to Colorado after missing the entire Western United States. The storm has hit nearly all corners of the state with a vengeance, bringing mid-winter conditions and dumping up to two feet of snow on Colorado resorts. The storm is forecasted to continue dumping snow on Colorado until late Monday night.
“No one is more excited than me to say it’s time to put away your golf clubs and bust out your ski gear, exclaimed Rob Perlman, President & CEO of Colorado Ski Country USA. “These early snowstorms are the perfect harbinger of an unbelievable season to come.
Colorado’s central I-70 corridor seems to have been hit the hardest; Breckenridge is socked in with 17 inches of new snow in town, and 24 inches on the mountain. Its neighbor Copper Mountain is reporting 18 inches and Keystone is reporting 17 inches on the mountain, while other resorts on the corridor are reporting upwards of a foot of fresh powder.
While some central Colorado communities are still digging out from the dump, skiers in Southern Colorado enjoyed the powder yesterday as they strapped on their boards and descended down Silverton Mountain.
“Our phones are ringing off the hook today with people excited for the ski season ahead, said Perlman. “They’re calling to get the inside scoop on who’s going to open first and when.
On the Continental Divide, the Race to Open is still on between Loveland and Arapahoe Basin. Each has received about a foot of powder from this latest storm so far.
“We’ve been on high alert for Opening Day since the snow storm last week, explained John Sellers, Director of Marketing. “We’ve had our snow guns on for a couple weeks now, and with this giant push from Mother Nature, we may be able to open sooner than our mid- to late-October anticipated opening.
