Action Sport & Lifestyle Celebration sets entry deadline: February 20, 2004

WHISTLER, BC, January 6, 2004 — The 6th annual Pro Photographer Search held during Whistler’s TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival in April has announced a world-wide call for entries. The entry deadline is February 20, 2004.

Growing in stature and gaining recognition as the pre-eminent event of its kind in the world, the Pro Photographer Search celebrates action sport and lifestyle photography by inviting six finalists to present their work in Whistler during the TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival, April 16-25. The winner of the Search has the honour of presenting alongside photography legends as he or she takes the Wildcard spot in the prestigious Pro Photographer Showdown, later in the Festival.

The Pro Photographer Search is seeking entries from both emerging and already published action sport and lifestyle photographers from around the world. A panel of key industry figures reviews all submissions anonymously and selects six finalists to present in Whistler.

The Pro Photographer Search has the reputation for accelerating the careers of up and coming photographers. Last year’s Search received more entries than ever before and the strength of the submissions was outstanding.

Last year’s Best of Show was mountain bike photographer Sterling Lorence who thrilled the audience with his stunning images. “I’ve aspired to be a part of this event since its inception,” Lorence said. “To be part of an event that influenced my career so much is a huge honour.” Lorence went on to present alongside international legends, surf photographer Warren Bolster, skateboard photographer Jon Humphries and ski photographer Mattias Fredriksson, in the Pro Photographer Showdown.

In response to judges and photographer feedback, the audience will see a major change in the format of this year’s Search — all six finalists will present together on one night, April 20, 2004. With the change to a single night Search and a move to a bigger home in the newly renovated TELUS Conference Centre at Whistler, more people than ever before will see the awe-inspiring presentations by the finalists. In order to accommodate all presentations being done in one-night, each presentation will be shortened to 9 minutes.

The Pro Photographer Search takes place during the TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival — a 10-day super charged event fusing music, arts and sports, April 16 — 25. Festival highlights include: Ripzone Snowboard Invitational, World Skiing Invitational, DKNY//JEANS Outdoor Concert Series, Kokanee Freeride, Pro Photographer Search and Showdown, Filmmaker Showdown, Super Demo Days, Whistler DogFest and Words & Stories.
