For eleven years running, Mammoth Mountain’s annual West Coast Invitational has marked the end of each season, most recently with the rowdy rail jam in The Village. This year, the contest moves up to Canyon Lodge in order to accommodate a massive big air jump, more spectators, a larger concert, and an even bigger end-of-the-year blowout!
West Coast Invitational 2012, presented by Monster Energy will feature an all-new nighttime big air competition. Snowboarders will be placed into a bracket— alongside skiers— as they attempt to move through the elimination rounds and closer to a piece of the $15,000 prize purse. When it’s all said and done, a winning overall rider will be crowned, and a cash prize will be handed out for best trick.
Confirmed athletes for the West Coast Invitational Big Air include Sage Kotsenburg, Lonnie Kauk, Tim Humphries, Chas Guldemond, Cody Rosenthal, Eric Beauchemin, Ole Chrisian Hagen, Spencer Whiting, and Brandon Davis. These top snowboarders will perform their best tricks in hopes of impressing the judges, Mammoth team athletes Eddie Wall and Kimmy Fasani.
Also part of the West Coast Invitational is the Eddie Wall Ride Invitational. This annual event is a chance for Eddie and friends to ride a custom set-up, but this year you can get in on the action too! Before and after the contest, the course will be a hike park open to the public, for free! Ride what the pros ride, in addition to easier features for all abilities.
During the afternoon festivities, the bars will be open, the sun will be out, and The Ragged Jubilee will perform a live show on the deck at Canyon Lodge. Then, after the big air competition, Beats by Dr. Dre presents Rye Rye, live in concert inside Canyon Lodge, as well as an afterparty at Hyde Lounge Mammoth.
Mammoth Mountain is open seven days a week through Memorial Day, with three parks, a 22-foot halfpipe and seven lifts in daily operation. Be sure to Like Mammoth Unbound on Facebook for the most recent updates, and check out mammothunbound.com/wci for deals on lift tickets and lodging.
