Park City, Utah -Park City Mountain Resort (PCMR) officially begins itscelebration of the upcoming 2002 Olympic Winter Games with the launch ofthe Legacy Ski and Ride Program. Through this three-year program, morethan 12,000 Utah school children will learn to ski or snowboard forFREE.

“Serving as a venue for the first Olympiad of the 21st century is, Ibelieve, one of the highest honors a mountain resort can hold,” saidVern Greco, PCMR president and general manager. “We started the LegacySki and Ride Program to ensure that kids across the state couldexperience some of the excitement of the competition that will be heldhere during the 2002 Olympic Winter Games.”

PCMR’s Legacy Ski and Ride Program kick-off will be held on Saturday,Jan 15 in the resort’s First Time lift area (near the base of the EagleRace Arena) at 6:30 p.m. This event will feature appearances by OlympicGold Medallist and PCMR Director of Skiing Picabo Street; Salt LakeOrganizing Committee (SLOC) President Mitt Romney; program sponsors; theSnow Monsters; and a grand finale light show by the Utah SynchronizedSkiers.

“I have such a passion for this sport, and am so excited to introducekids to skiing or snowboarding who have never tried snow sports before,”Street said. “This program gives all Utah kids the opportunity to enjoyour beautiful mountains and experience the joy of skiing or snowboardingfirst-hand.”

The Legacy Ski and Ride Program runs most Friday and Saturday nightsthrough the remainder of the 1999-2000 winter season. Those interestedin participating are asked to pre-register at least seven days inadvance by calling 1-800-915-3457. Each Legacy Ski and Ride Programstudent receives a FREE lift ticket, FREE ski or snowboard rentalequipment and a FREE three-hour lesson.

“Trying something new, especially skiing or snowboarding, can beintimidating,” said Kathy Hunter, Legacy Ski & Ride chairperson. “We’veset up the program to really cater to the first-time skier. We want theparticipants to feel comfortable throughout the entire process.”
