Deaf Ski Week Convention
March 12-19, 2006
The U.S. Deaf Ski & Snowboard (USDSSA) Association will be hosting a try-out event at Telluride, CO during March 12-19, 2006. USDSSA is a non-profit recreational and competitive organization of hard-of-hearing and deaf skiers, snowboarders and cross country skiers. USADSF is recognized by the U.S. Olympic Committee as having oversight of international deaf sports. The International Olympic Committee sanctions the Deaflympic Games. USDSSA is also recognized by the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Association (USSA). Athletes who make the team will represent the US at the Deaflympics in 2007. Tryouts are for the ski and snowboard teams. Cross country skiers will be selected based on the number of FIS points accumulated. The team tryouts at Telluride is a tremendous opportunity to improve your skiing or snowboarding skills, meet other athletes like yourself and be a part of a team! All hard-of-hearing and deaf individuals with a hearing loss of 55dB or greater in the better ear are eligible to qualify for a spot on the US Ski, Snowboard and Cross Country Ski Teams. No previous racing experience is necessary for the Telluride Tryouts but strong skiing and snowboarding skills are required. USDSSA will train athletes how to race through the gates during the tryouts! Halfpipe skills are strongly desirable for those that are interested in competing in the halfpipe. If you are interested in learning more about the team try-outs, please go to the USDSSA website (www.usdssa.org) and click on the Racing menu option (or go directly to: http://usdssa.org/Races.html).
