Terms of the purchase were not disclosed, however the property is valued at 3.5 million. “We talked to Bear Mountain and Snow Summit about the idea as well as The Real Deal board-shop, they are 100% behind this move and we plan on forging some partnerships to create a support system. Big Bear Lake is a great move for THE BLOCK …it’s the place to snowboard for residents of Orange County, Los Angeles County, Riverside County, San Diego County, San Bernardino County and even Las Vegas.
The industry and our consumers kept asking when we would have a BLOCK in Southern California…it’s here!” says Travis Wood, Big Bear resident and investor. Plans are to convert the hotel into THE BLOCK at Big Bear similar to THE BLOCK at Tahoe in S. Lake Tahoe, CA. Renovation plans include re-fitting all 52 rooms with galvanized steel furniture, wall sized art and vibrant two tone colors. The pool and hot tub area are to be enclosed with UV resistant glass frame and connected to the lobby via exterior deck. The lobby area will be known as “The Love sac Lounge” a 1,500 sq. ft. check in area and cyber cafe. 36 of the rooms will consist of Two King beds, 16 rooms will consist of a King bed and living room. Wet bars will be installed in nine rooms selected for conversion to Signature Suites.
Signature Suites are offered to Spy Optic, Jones Soda Co., Vivid Video, Transworld SNOWboarding Magazine, Zoo York, Roxy Clothing, FLOW USA, Section Outerwear and DVS SHOE CO. A Nissan Armada, Chevy Tahoe or expanded Escalade will be purchased to shuttle customers to and from the mountains and downtown Big Bear.
The purchase in Big Bear, CA will be the third hotel acquisition for Montoya and Smith since April of 2003 when they acquired the Lamplighter and Monte Carlo hotels to form what is now THE BLOCK at Tahoe “The Worlds First SnowboarderHotel”.
