Valdez, Alaska – November 19, 2011 - Tailgate Alaska will return to Thompson Pass next season, bringing together dedicated recreational riders, professional athletes and the industry to ride the world’s best mountains and deepest snow.
This results in life changing mountain experiences on the blue days but a lot of down time as well. Tailgate Alaska fills the in between times with daily BBQ, beer garden, snow science education, shelter, wifi and entertainment.
Due to overwhelming demand, Tailgate Alaska is now a ticketed event – according to event founder Mark Sullivan, “The response has been amazing so we are limiting participation to 500 (last year 300 attended), to try to keep it safe out there and ensure there is plenty of powder in the zones directly above the Tailgate party. Plus, there are only so many beds in Valdez and RVs to rent in Anchorage.”
Tickets have been selling rapidly, although this is their first actual announcement. According to founder Mark Sullivan, “I would not be surprised if the event is sold out before Christmas. This year it will be really important to plan ahead as already people are booking rooms and RVs as well.”
Tailgate Alaska also plays host to the World Freeriding Championships - The World Extreme Skiing Championships (the world’s first big mountain event celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2011) and the King of the Hill (snowboarding’s original freeride event). Tailgate Alaska is scheduled for March 25 – April 10, 2010.
