Big Bear Lake, CA—The wait for Southern California’s only superpipe to open is now over, with the 580-foot-long, 18-foot-high feature ready for action at Bear Mountain. In addition to the superpipe, Bear Mountain’s standard halfpipe has been open since Wednesday, December 27.
“Although Big Bear Mountain Resorts (BBMR) has received minimal natural snowfall, we’ve had the most productive snowmaking season ever, which is why we are able to open the superpipe said Chris Riddle, marketing director for BBMR. “As one of Bear Mountain’s most popular features, the superpipe attracts snowboarders and skiers from all over Southern California, added Riddle. This Saturday, January 27th, Bear Mountain will host the Suzuki Halfpipe Jam — the country’s only grassroots ski and snowboard halfpipe competition — an event open to the public and free to enter. Skiers and snowboarders will compete in a “jam format – riders take as many runs as possible in a two-hour period in the superpipe – for more than $5,000 in cash and prizes from Head, Columbia Sportswear Company and Yakima.
