Aspen/Snowmass, CO, September 20, 2007… Registration is now open for the 4th annual Summit for Life. Summit for Life, formally known as Storm the Stars, is an uphill race on Aspen Mountain at 6 p.m. on Saturday, December 1, 2007
The Summit for Life celebration promotes organ and tissue donation and benefits the Chris Klug Foundation and the American Transplant Foundation.
“Last year’s event was remarkable and this year is going to be even better, says Chris Klug, Aspen/Snowmass athlete and Olympic medalist. “I’m going to train a little harder this year, so I can try to break a 60 minute time to win a bet against my friends.
Participants will travel over 3,000 vertical feet to the top of Aspen Mountain using their preferred choice of lighting and non-motorized equipment — snowshoes, skins and other creative means in the dead of night. Once participants cross the finish line they are treated to a dinner at the Sundeck, awards, raffle and live music by local band, The Coyote Gospel. Prizes will be given to the top three men and women finishers and the top team. Awards will also be issued to the top three fundraisers.
Racers of all ages and ability levels are encouraged to participate.
The cost to register for the race is $40 per person, which includes race support, aid stations, dinner, entertainment at the Sundeck and a great racer-bag. By registering, racers are committing to raise a minimum of $160 in pledges but are encouraged to raise more.
Those who do not wish to hike, but still want to support the cause, have two options. A $60 “Ride for Life ticket buys a ride on the Silver Queen Gondola, dinner, drinks and dancing at the Sundeck. A “Snowed In donation allows anyone, anywhere, to support Summit for Life from the comfort of their own home.
“Funds from this event will help spread the word about organ and tissue donation. One donor can save eight lives, says Heidi Heltzel, Executive Director of the American Transplant Foundation. “Almost 100,000 people in the U.S. are currently waiting for a life-saving transplant.
