SOFA KING NEW ENGLAND
This is the evolving story of twelve teams who dared to be different. They were sick of traditional contests and wanted out. We gathered these unique groups and made a contest solely for them. Welcome to Sofa King New England, snowboarding’s first interactive scavenger hunt.
SKNE runs from January 22 through March 2, 2011. During this time every team will travel to each of our six mountains and capture the performance of a predetermined scavenger hunt list. These objectives include anything from interacting with the lifties, various tricks on certain features, and even finding the hidden sofa. A team will consist of four riders, one filmer, and one photographer.
To enter, a team captain must email firstname.lastname@example.org with their team roster and contact information. They must then attend our kick off party at Crotched Mountain on the night of January 22, 2011. Here they will receive all the rules, entry prizes, cameras, and mountain information in exchange for our $100 entry fee. Tickets will be included for all riders that night. Teams that have preregistered online but do not attend the party will not be entered. Entry is limited to the first twelve teams. This contest is limited to those sixteen years of age and older.
After visiting each mountain a team will have up to one week to upload their video to contour.com and photos to our Facebook fan page. If teams don’t upload their media within the time limit then they will be penalized future tickets to other mountains. From there each mountain can use this media for their own marketing in the form of a mountain or park update. Once the contest is over all teams will be required to submit their highest quality media with no music to us with which we produce the final video.
Judging is based on overall impression. When looking at contenders we consider media quality, rider skill, team character, and number of objectives completed. In the past winners have easily stood out amongst the rest.
All teams then attend our awards party on March 15, 2011. Waterville Valley is allowing us to host this party at Legends the local bar on the eve of the two biggest contests in New Hampshire to boost attendance. That night we start off with the premiere of the final collective video by Adam Metterville. This is organized by each mountain and their objectives. We plan to award the top three teams, best photo, and best video following the premiere. Last year the first place team walked away with a VIP all inclusive trip to the Ride Shakedown in Canada, a $100 gas card to get there, and a head-to-toe Ride sponsorship for one year. Prizes for other teams included assorted gear from Ride and Pow, lift tickets, season passes, summer event tickets, and even a backyard snowboard rail from all the mountains.
We are proudly sponsored by Ride Snowboards, Pow Gloves, Contour Cameras, Siege Audio, The Face Mask, Blue Hills, Crotched, Wachusett, Loon, Waterville Valley, and Mount Snow.
