Heavy snowfall at Whistler/Blackcomb has created unprecedented conditions for opening week, but unfortunately tragedy has struck at the Canadian resort.
With sadness we report that a 27-year-old man has died after being found unconscious and unresponsive on Backcomb Mountain.
According to reports, the man was found near the Arthur’s Choice run and members of the public performed CPR before the Ski Patrol arrived on scene. Crews continued CPR and used an AED defibrillator, but the snowboarder was pronounced dead after attempts to resuciate him were unsuccessful.
Our deepest condolences go out to the victims family and friends.
This tragedy serves as a reminder to be very cautious in deep conditions, ride with a buddy, and stay out of unmarked terrain.
