Big Bear Lake, CA—After a warmer than normal November, late Friday evening temperatures finally dropped, allowing Big Bear Mountain Resorts to power up its massive snowmaking system. The season officially begins Wednesday morning at 8:30 a.m. when skiers and snowboarders hit the Snow Summit slopes.
Snow Summit will open with two chairlifts serving Miracle Mile from top to bottom plus the Bear Bottom Beginner’s Area with terrain available for all levels. As snowmaking continues, more lifts and terrain will be opened in the very near future. Bear Mountain will open Friday, December 1, which will allow the Bear Mountain Park Staff to create the type of terrain features for which “The Park at Bear Mountain is famous.
The coverage at Snow Summit will be very good on the open runs with a base ranging from 8 — 24 inches of mostly machined-groomed, packed-powder surface conditions. Opening day hours of operation are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Opening day guests may take advantage of special early-season lift ticket prices of $35 adults (22 and older), $30 young adults (13 to 21) and $10 children (7-12). Children 6 and under are free. These early season rates are subject to change at anytime. Tickets are available for purchase at Snow Summit.
With an unprecedented $6 million in new snowmaking equipment, including 26 new Super Wizzard snow guns, this season will be unlike any other as guests experience reliable snow conditions and enhanced snow quality every day of the season, regardless of natural snowfall.
“Over the last several days, our dedicated snowmaking crew has been working hard so we can open, said Chris Riddle, marketing director for Big Bear Mountain Resorts. “Our $6 million investment in our snowmaking system is really paying off with the amount of snow we’ve been able to produce. This season will be unlike any other with more snow, better snow, all season long.
Recently named as one of North America’s Top 10 Skier Destinations by global Internet media company Travelzoo, Big Bear continues to be a leader in the industry with its innovation and investment in snowmaking technology and terrain design.
