Shaun White Opts Out Of US Open Finals

Today after laying low through the week, Shaun White took some runs through the pipe and made the difficult decision to pull out of the final stop of the open. He recently injured his ankle training in the pipe. The injury doesn’t sound too bad since he is still able to shred.

Shaun’s departure leaves the door open for the TTR World Tour title (and the $50,000 first place purse) of which he was in serious contention. As for the TTR World Tour title, Peetu Piiroinen only needs to finish 8th in either today’s pipe finals or tomorrow’s slopestyle to become the TTR World Champ.

Interestingly, Shaun White isn’t even in the top ten for the overall Open Series title. Thanks in part to his first place finishes in both the pipe and slopes at the Asian Open, Chas Guldemond is the current leader of the Open series and looks to be in place to possibly win it along with the $100,000 prize purse. He has a decent lead over second place contender Charles Reid and third place Mason Aguirre.

Bummer. Never good to see a top rider on the injured reserve list.

A win will be bitter sweet for whoever gets first now. While it is still a victory it’s not the same and beating the best in the world.
