Shaun White’s Air + Style Comes To LA This Weekend

This weekend, February 21 and 22, Shaun White’s Air + Style will take over the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California, marking Air + Style’s North American debut. Thirty-two snowboarders and skiers will compete in the big air event that boasts a prize purse of 100,000 dollars for each field, while 18 musical acts will perform during the two-day festival oriented event. In the 21 year history of the Air + Style, this is the first time skiers will take part in what has traditionally been a snowboard-only contest.

“I’m looking forward to having an Air + Style in the USA for the first time in history,” said Sage Kostenburg when asked about competing. “Being able to be a part of this event with this group of riders means a lot to me.  I think it will be epic to watch!”

The riders list is stacked with heavy contest hitters including, Stale Sandbech (Norway), winner of Air + Style Innsbruck, Mark McMorris (Canada), reigning X Games Gold Medalist, Sage Kotsenburg (USA) Olympic Gold medalist, and Olympians Max Parrot (Canada) and Sven Thorgren (Sweden).

The stadium jump was built and will be maintained by Snow Park Technologies and is 160-feet high, 450-feet long and is approximately 70 feet to the sweet spot of the landing.

While the snowboarding aspect will be quite the spectacle in the Southern California heat, perhaps the bigger draw and reason most attendees will pay the 50 dollar general admission day rate, is the broad spectrum of musical acts slated to perform.

The biggest names include Kendrick Lamar, Steve Aoki, Diplo, Phantogram, and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. Smaller acts including Shaun White’s Bad Things, Sleigh Bells, Cults, and Surfer Blood will also play on the two different stages situated near the big air jump.

"The idea is it's more than just a competition and more than just a music festival," Shaun White said in a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times about the event. "It's a graphic look at culture and sport. It's not all about athletics. It's not all about music. It's also about clothing and cool companies. We want a totally different element floating around this event.”
