McLean, Virginia/Portland, Maine—Octagon today announced the signing of action sports star Shaun Palmer. Tabbed as one of the “World’s Greatest Athletes by USA Today in 1998, Palmer retired in 2002 and now returns to the winter action sports scene to compete in snowboardcross events and will vie for a spot on the US Olympic snowboarding team.
The 37-year-old native of South Lake Tahoe, CA has dominated every action sport he has competed in since turning professional in 1985. One of sport’s most versatile athletes, Palmer has succeeded in snowboarding, skiing, mountain biking, and motocross. A six-time XGames gold medalist and five-time snowboarding world champion, Palmer also won the world championships in the mountain biking dual slalom event in his first year of competition and the skiercross events at both the XGames and Gravity Games in 2000. Among the other accolades that Palmer has garnered in his storied career include the 2000 NEA Extreme Athlete of the Year and the 2001 ESPY Action Sports Athlete of the Year honors.
