Beaver Creek, Colo. – April 5, 2010 -
Beaver Creek Resort is proud to host the seventh annual Malay Day on Thursday, April 8 at 11 a.m. The event is held in honor and loving memory of local snowboarder, Josh Malay, who lost his life while snowboarding in 2004. Friends and industry members are inspired to “live and love life” in his memory.
Malay Day is a three-part competition that will take place in Beaver Creek’s Half Barrel Half Pipe and The Rodeo Terrain Park. It will include half-pipe, rails, and a big air competition. To commemorate one of Josh’s snowboard goals, “to destroy the mountain and everything on it”, the best overall rider of the day will be recognized and receive a 2010/2011 Season Pass. A DJ will be spinning all day, free food will be available for all participants, and additional prizes will be awarded at random to those who impress the judges. Participants will be easily identified in event t-shirts. Finnegan’s Wake in Avon is hosting the after-party at 5 p.m.
Malay Day is open to all ages, genders and disciplines. Participants must register for the contest at the Coyote Café in Beaver Creek Village from 8-10 a.m. on April 8. The registration fee is $20. Those under 18 must bring a parent to registration to sign waivers. Participants may purchase a special $55 lift ticket for the day of the event at registration.
