From the northern tip of Maine to the north side of Baltimore, snowboarders thankfully no longer need to resort to illegal means (and risk a flogging by the police) in order to ride for free.

In an act to prevent the arrest and incarceration of snowboarders, the Rome SDS and Sugarbush Resort in Warren, Vermont have joined forces to provide a free day of hot shred action to every rider on the East Coast who gets a 2005 Rome deck this season.

Head down to your local Rome dealer in New England or the Mid-Atlantic (NY, NJ, PA, MD). When you thumb through the new Anthems, Agents and other Rome decks, you’ll see a “Free Sugarbush Lift Ticket sticker on every board. The cost of the board still puts a hit on your credit card of course, but riding it doesn’t—at least for one day.

In 2004-05, Sugarbush is stepping up its commitment to shaping the best park and pipe in northern Vermont. New in 04-05, the resort will unveil a re-designed park that will run the full length of the Sunshine Double—so there is no need to waste time freeriding if all you want to do is hit kickers and ride rails. And like last year, the regularly groomed Superpipe will return to its spot just above the deck of the lodge at Mount Ellen. Combine this freestyle commitment with the increased snowfall of the northern part of Vermont and Sugarbush’s natural terrain in places like Castlerock and Slide Brook, and Sugarbush is arguably the most complete riding spot in the East.

With the mountain’s freestyle focus on building the jibs, kickers and pipes that riders want, it made sense for the SDS to work with Sugarbush to hook up the free day of riding.

Getting the free Sugarbush lift ticket is easy. When you buy a 2005 Rome deck, save your receipt and make sure the shop gives you a Sugarbush “Mountain Money voucher. Complete the back side of the voucher. Then head to Sugarbush and show the receipt from the purchase of your Rome deck and the Mountain Money voucher at Guest Services, and the mountain will hand over a fresh lift ticket.

Then jump on the nearest lift and start your free day of hot shred action.
