Ride Extends Design Comp Deadline

Vashon Island, Wash. (January 13, 2004) – Ride Snowboards has extended the registration deadline for SNOWBOARD ART 2: A Graphics Competition to January 26, 2004. Entries must be postmarked by this date to arrive no later than February 2, 2004. The global competition is open to students, undiscovered artists and riders of any age. “Intent to Enter forms are available for download at www.ridesnowboards.com/snowboardartcontest along with a snowboard art template and competition rules. A $10 entry fee is required for each design submitted for judging.

All designs will be reviewed by Ride’s Creative Director Styk and Art Director Fank on February 13, 2004 at Steamboat Springs, Colo. The winners will be revealed that evening at a reception at the Steamboat Grand Resort Hotel, and personally contacted on February 14.

The artist behind the “Best of Show design will receive a $1,000 cash prize and a snowboard featuring the graphic. Four more limited edition snowboards with the design will be produced for fundraising purposes to benefit the Surfrider Foundation’s Snowrider Project and artLink Steamboat. The 1st runner up will win $500; the 2nd runner up a one-day backcountry boarding pass with Steamboat Powdercats or $200 cash; and the 3rd runner up will walk away with $150 and a Ride surprise.

“The competition is a great way for an undiscovered talent to get noticed by the industry, says Styk. “We have no idea who’s going to win this. It literally could be anyone with a pencil, crayons, paint, or computer and a few skills.

Last year, Derek Muskat out of Toronto, Canada won the premier SNOWBOARD ART competition. His design was selected out of hundreds of submissions sent in from around the world. This year more than twice the amount of designs have already been submitted from Japan, Australia, Scotland, Italy and North America.

Award winners and their designs will be posted on www.artlinksteamboat.org and www.ridesnowboards.com by mid-February.
