ST. LOUIS, December, 1997 ¿ It will be a season-ending showdown in the snow when 125 of the top male and female snowboarders in the country gather to compete in the nationally-televised $100,000 Bud Light Boarder Battle at Copper Mountain Resort April 17-19, 1998. The event will be aired on ESPN2.
The Bud Light Boarder Battle will feature one of the largest purses ever offered in snowboarding history. The top 90 men and 35 women in snowboarding will compete for cash purses in each event and an overall points competition worth $40,000.
The Bud Light-sponsored event will feature snowboarders competing in three chosen events: the Halfpipe, Big Air and Snowboard Cross (SBX) categories in the men’s division and the Halfpipe and SBX categories in the women’s division.
The Boarder Battle, solely created and promoted by Bud Light, will combine a fiercely competitive snowboarding event with an enthusiastic and electric Friday and Saturday night crowd at the semifinals and finals.

It will also help to continue the growth of and to heighten awareness about the sport of snowboarding after its first appearance on the world stage in à‚Å’98 Olympic Games in Nagano.”
Since the snowboarding craze began, Bud Light has been a major sponsor of snowboarding series and events. Bud Light is the title sponsor of the American Snowboarding Tour, featuring the top snowboarders in the country. Bud Light is also the title sponsor of the U.S. Snowboard Grand Prix Olympic Qualifying series, which will be used to select the U.S. Olympic Snowboard Team that will participate in the 1998 Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan.
The Bud Light Boarder Battle will be held at Copper Mountain Resort, the resort visited by more Colorado skiers and snowboarders than any other resort this past season. Over the past two years, Copper Mountain has averaged more than 1.1 million visitors. Along with being the host site of the Bud Light Boarder Battle, Copper Mountain continues to establish itself as the hot spot for snowboarding action by hosting events such as the Swatch World Cup Boardercross tour in February and the Copper Mountain/USASA Snowboard Series.
