SANTA MONICA, Calif., May 11 — Activision, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) announced today that it has entered into exclusive partnerships with top-pro snowboarder Shaun Palmer and world-class surfer Kelly Slater to develop next-generation console games based on both athletes.

Palmer and Slater will work closely with Activision to develop the titles as well as being designated spokespeople for the games. Activision expects to release both games in 2001.

Winner of five X-Games gold medals, Shaun Palmer is the International Snowboarding Federation’s World Boardercross Champion and has been hailed by USA Today as the “acknowledged master of the sport.” Palmer has become the quintessential extreme sports athlete, winning competitions in snowboarding, extreme skiing, mountain bike racing, motocross and wakeboarding. He will kick off his entry into the interactive software arena with an appearance in Activision’s booth at the 2000 Electronic Entertainment Expo.

Considered by many to be the best-known surfer in the world, Kelly Slater set a world record in 1998 when he won his sixth world title. Slater first became the World Professional Surfing Champion in 1992 at the age of 20, and then garnered an additional five titles from 1994 – 1998. In securing the title five years consecutively, Slater set yet another record. The renowned athlete has spent eight years touring the globe, competing in and winning tournaments, including the Coke Surf Classic in Australia and the Quicksilver Surfmasters in France.
