Nike to Host Indoor Snowboard and Music Festival

BEAVERTON, Ore.–April 12, 2000–This summer Chicago will get a major snow storm when the ACG Indoor, America’s first indoor snowboard event, blows into the Windy City August 26, 2000, at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill.

The ACG Indoor will feature top competitors from around the world in a professional quarterpipe snowboard competition, live music from top bands, pyrotechnics, a laser show, exciting action sport demonstrations and more.

“With a unique fusing of music, sport and culture we are attracting some of the top profile riders in the world,” says Scott MacEachern, sports marketing director at Nike, Inc. “The response from both riders and sponsors has been phenomenal. Sega Dreamcast just signed on as the presenting sponsor, and we’ve also heard from other companies that are ready to jump on to become a part of this truly groundbreaking event.”

The ACG Indoor will be produced by On Board Entertainment, a sports and entertainment company specializing in the youth market. “Nike came to us and wanted to create a fresh environment that was entertaining, interactive and a real `full stimulus experience’ “, commented Dan Hirsch, a partner at On Board Entertainment. “The goal with this event is to go beyond sport. Nike ACG is taking coliseum entertainment to the next level and we are excited to be working with them on this benchmark project.” The ACG Indoor, which features the largest purse ever offered at a U.S. snowboard quarterpipe event, will be broadcast on USA Network, October 7, at 11:00 AM.

Live music by gold and platinum performing artists will complement the snowboard competition, which will feature a ceiling-to-floor launch ramp that swoops down over rows of seats to add to the excitement of the event. There will also be interactive displays and the latest games to demo from Sega Dreamcast.

The Chicago venue was selected because of the city’s rare access to top caliber winter sports competitions. “For Nike ACG to bring an event like this to Chicago teens who never get the opportunity to go to a premier snowboarding event in their area is exciting,” says Keith Duck, owner of the Raging Buffalo Snowboard park in Algonquin, Ill. “This is a really cool way to bring the mountain to the kids.”
