With four impressive podium finishes during the 2011 Freeride World Tour, Jones rider Mitch Toelderer takes home the Championship. This week’s second place finish on freeriding’s most legendary face, the Bec des rosses in Verbier Switzerland, in tough conditions sealed the deal for the Austrian. Toelderer’s riding was both consistent and strong at the world’s most impressive resorts throughout the winter.
“I feel great today and it felt great to also win in front of the Austrian crowd in Fieberbrunn on the fifth stop!” says Toelderer. “The tour final in Verbier was tough! Very difficult snow conditions with powder on top of sugar and sharks that caused a lot of severe crashes. We were up on the start for about three hours and it was a mind game to stay kind of relaxed. I knew that I needed a second place to win the overall title and gave it my all.”
Toelderer rides Jones 164cm flagship most of the time, including on the Freeride World Tour. “It totally suits to my riding style with quickness in difficult terrain and solid stomps on the airs,” says Toelderer.
His path to the Championship was paved with a win at the Swatch Big Mountain Fieberbrunn by Nissan and second place finishes at the Nissan Freeride Engadin St. Moritz by Swatch, Nissan Russian Adventure – Sochi and the Nissan Xtreme Verbier by Swatch.
Toelderer will finish up his season driving an RV from his home in Austria to Norway where he will explore previously unridden terrain with the help of his Jones Solution splitboard. For more on the champion and Jones Snowboards, please visit jonessnowboards.com.
