It’s not often you think of mountain towns and the newest bands in the same frame of reference, but this year Mammoth Mountain partnered with Belly Up Music to bring surprising new shows slopeside with the 2011/12 Mammoth Concert Series.

Opening weekend saw Ra Ra Riot and Black Lips tearing up Canyon Lodge, complete with mosh pit, flying toilet paper and pro snowboarders from all over the world causing a ruckus.

On December 17, 2011, the much talked about collective from New Zealand, The Naked + Famous, will play a FREE show under Mammoth Mountain’s starry skies after the stunning on-hill Night of Lights festival. With Alisa Xayalith’s impressive vocals and the band’s wall of sound, this show will be something to remember. Late last year the band released their full length album Passive Me, Aggressive You and it has been a solid achievement that continues to gain momentum. Whether you know it or not, you’ve probably tapped your foot to their single “Young Blood” and may be one of the millions to have watched their well-crafted and beautiful videos.

Get ready to dance January 14, 2012 as Sub Pop’s Handsome Furs, supporting their newest album Sound Kapital, turn it up at Canyon Lodge. With enough edge and style for all of us, Dan Boeckner— of  Wolf Parade and Atlas Strategic— and his wife, writer Alexei Perry create enough heat to turn the most frigid into a puddle of passion. Los Angeles-based but San Diego-bred The Soft Pack open for the duo with their own brand of new rock.

Springtime will bring a band Rolling Stonecalled one of the hottest groups of 2010, Denton, Texas’ synthpop, mind-melding Neon Indian. Mark your calendar for April 22, 2012 for a night with Alan Palomo— a.k.a. Neon Indian.
