I woke up at 7:30 am, wiped the crust from my eyes, gazed out the window, and the view from the couch I’ve been surfing was better than ever-and I wasn’t even hung over. The skies were blue, the snow was white, and it was deep as hell. There was probably five feet of snow in the front yard. There is so much snow in Mammoth right now-it is wintery as hell. The snowbanks in town are crazy big, and the mountain has been blessed with anywhere from five to ten feet of the stuff.
We-Joe Carter, Harrison Gordon, Tucker Watson and myself, geared up and half-stepped up the road to the village and hopped on the gondola. We got to Canyon Lodge and lapped schoolyard a few times. It was fun, but really flat. So we all got in on a game of “wait in line” at chair four. If you’ve ever played this game before, you know that it totally sucks. It sucks even more when there’s 3,100 vertical feet, and 3,500 rideable acres of fresh snow.
So we made our way to chair four and partook in round two of the aforementioned game. The line was kind of thick, but every ten minutes or so, one person would flee the line and ten or fifteen more would freak and bail. We did not freak or bail, and it was worth the wait.
The top never opened, it was crazy windy up there and you could see some heavy slides already. The claim is now a twelve-foot base, and it snowed a little bit again tonight. It should be clear/partly cloudy through the weekend, but stay home, it totally sucks up here-you’re over it.
