“Holy s—t, dude … I think I just got hard!”—Overheard in the liftline at 9:07 AM
It’s hard to beat a testament like that. Opening day at Mammoth Mountain, CA was something almost unreal, and yes, some people may have gotten a bit “overexcited” at the prospect of shredding pow, slashing turns, riding park and bombing top-to-bottom groomers in early November.
The Mountain backed up the claimers’ claims in stride, offering up a truly beautiful day to enjoy the prime, mid-season conditions: warm temps, blue skies, mild winds, park laps, and for those who ventured out to find it, enough knee-deep powder runs to satisfy any jonesing, summer couch-sore snowboarder out there.
With a weather report looking to maintain throughout the weekend, it’s time to jump in the car and make the trek towards the Eastern Sierras. Opening weekend events and fests will be going on from tonight through Sunday—check out The Sounds show and after party HERE, and stay up on everything happening at mammothmountain.com.
And be sure and stop by the Hyde Lounge from 4-7 PM this Saturday, for the TransWorld SNOWboarding 200th Issue Celebration! More info on the event is available by clicking HERE.
Enjoy the snaps from the day, be on the lookout for more photos and TransWorld videos from the weekend, and get hyped—with Mammoth, Brighton, Mountain High, A-Basin, Sunday River, and many more opening days here or coming just around the bend, the 2010-2011 snowboard season is officially, finally on. Get after it!
