With the purchase of an all day, adult lift ticket, “never-evers” can get aFREE 2.5 hour lesson and a professional introduction snowboarding. Half-daylessons are offered at 9:30 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. daily during the selecteddates. New riders learn basic equipment use and lift riding skills and aretaught how to perform basic movements, control speed, and change directionon the board.
To help novices maximize their fun on the slopes, Winter Park’s Skier andRider Improvement Center has aggressively embraced modern snowboardtechnology.
“Even though some of the modern technology has been around for severalyears, most people don’t realize how much easier it is to learn how tosnowboard and how much faster they can get better,” said Bob Barnes,director of the Skier and Rider Improvement Center. “The Learn for Freeprogram is one of Winter Park’s most important incentives for attracting newriders to the sport.”
Snowboarders have seen equipment improvements with moreuser-friendly boots and bindings. Rider Improvement Center instructors arequick to emphasize that continuously improving technology has acceleratedthe learning curve and comfort level of snowboard novices.
