Over 170 kids from Los Angeles’ most under-served neighborhoods will have this life-impacting experience this winter through Chill, an international intervention program for underprivileged and at-risk inner-city kids between the ages of 10-18. Chill provides these kids with everything they need for the six-week learn-to-snowboard experience: lift tickets, instruction, bus transportation and gear (boards, bindings, boots, jackets, pants, gloves, hats). Because each participant has the chance to go once a week for six consecutive weeks, they all learn. Therefore, they all succeed.
Chill works through agencies that service disadvantaged kids: kids on probation, kids in foster care and residential group homes, kids with chemical dependencies, kids from low-income neighborhoods, kids at-risk of drop-out, gangs, and drugs. Over 200 disadvantaged kids from LA will have this life-changing opportunity thanks to the generous contributions of Trafalgar Tours and Mitsubishi Motors. These kids will take six trips to Big Bear Mountain Resort during the daytime hours and have the chance to experience something that is fun, physical and healthy. It is Chill’s pleasure to give many of these kids their first chance to experience snow.
Some of the agencies looking to participate in the Los Angeles-Chill program are:
Casa de Amigos, Bresee Community Center, Drew Middle School, LA County Probation, Children Are Our Future, David & Margaret Home, Concept 7, El Centro Del Pueblo, Pride Foster Family Agency, Bell Senior High School, Olivecrest, TLC Home for Girls, Leroy Hanes Center, The Sycamores, and YEAH.
Los Angeles-Chill starts on Sunday, January 8th and rides every Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for six weeks thereafter — departing from various locations around LA at 8:30am, on the snow from 12:30 — 4:30pm, arriving back to the city by 7:00 – 7:30pm each night.
Los Angeles-Chill has moved to a new mountain thanks to the generous support of Big Bear Mountain Resorts. The kids will be outfitted on site followed by world-class instruction and ride time.
Please join the Los Angeles-Chill kids on any of our 24 program nights this season. What a powerful, visual story happening right in your backyard.
