On Sunday, April 3, 2011, the first ever “Jib for Japan” rider relief fundraiser and rail competition raised over $10,000 in relief funds in the wake of the devastating earthquake and tsunami that ravaged Japan. Over 60 company sponsors donated product for the biggest raffle Bear Mtn. has ever seen. Boards, bindings, boots, outerwear, goggles, gloves, headphones and a bunch of other goodies were raffled off throughout the day. It seemed as if everyone went home with something in hand.
Over 300 Jib for Japan hats from Modus and 100 t-shirts screened by Sunday Print Co were donated and sold for a $20 donation. All the t-shirts were sold out by the end of the day and only a few hats remained.
The “Jib for Japan” rail contest brought many international riders together to support this worthy cause and throwdown as hard as they could for their “brothers and sisters” in Japan. Huge prize packages were given to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners of each division. (Men’s open, Women’s open, 30+ open, and Groms)
“Laps for Japan” was a “jog-a-thon” for those who wanted to support the cause while snowboarding. Flux, 686, Flow and Wrong Gear donated $1.00 for every lap that was taken on Chair 5 for each person. Snowboarders and skiers who were wearing “Jib for Japan” on Chair 5 were automatically counted for each lap they did for an hour. It was great way to involve everyone who wanted to participate in the fundraising.
All in all, the event was a successful one that left everyone who contributed feeling good about the support they gave to the people of Japan. Other Jib for Japan events will be scheduled for the future so keep your eyes and ears peeled for the next one. It might be in your town next!
PLEASE STAY TUNED!! “Jib for Japan” will host an eBay auction for 1 of the 3 super limited edition Signal Snowboards that they pressed just for this event. Make sure to follow the Jib for Japan Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/jibforjapan
Bear Mountain was the location and thanks again go out the generous crew at Bear Mtn. Without your graceful hospitality, this event would not have been as successful as it had been.
