Volcom and friends came together last night at the Lido Theater in Newport Beach to celebrate the life of Jeff Anderson who passed away earlier this winter. Jeff Anderson’s life and influence in snowboarding were acknowledged and celebrated with viewings of the ’94 classic movie The Garden and the current Volcom movie Big Youth Happening. Neil Buttermore’s grainy black and white short motion picture homage ended the night on an emotional note. Neil and Jeff had filmed the footage after being inspired by the Avante Garde images in the Walrus Dreams. According to Neil they never had a plan for using the footage, “It was just for arts sake.” Neil edited the footage the night he heard of Jeff’s passing. “It was a form of release, I did it for Billy and his family and in memory of his brother,” he said.

Billy Anderson reminded all of us to hug and kiss our friends and tell them we love them. He said, “That’s what my brother and I did and that’s the only way I’m getting through this.” All proceeds from the show go to the Jeff Anderson Memorial Fund, PO Box 1395 Mammoth Lakes, CA 93456 for a new skate park in Mammoth.
