ISF World Series Category, Duel, US$ 30.000 Prize money

(BKK, Jan 5, 1999, 10:10 p.m. MET, bh) The excitement, action and 3500 spectators tonight went nuts when it came close to the finals as Karl Heinz Zangerl and Heidi Jaufenthaler took the Duel Slalom event.

A rather steep slope with running times of about 25 seconds, pretty hard andwith a lot of grip, a turny course setting for the finals, and, last not least, the world’s best alpine riders were the ingredients for this event.

The resort of Bad Kleinkirchheim and its staff proved their know-how inhosting events and put up one of the best finish venues in years.

It was an event in Austria and it was the day of Austrian athletes as well:Heidi Jaufenthaler/Burton and Karl Heinz Zangerl/Oxbow were unstoppabletoday. “Kalle” Zangerl, coming back on board after a three week’s break dueto a nasty flu, fought his way to victory by succeeding over local hero andlast year’s serial winner Sigi Graber/Burton.

Heidi Jaufenthaler/Burtonfinalized her victory more easily: Her opponent for the final was teammateSteffi von Siebenthal. Steffi was riding with a hurt and injured it again in the semi finaleliminating her from the finals.
