[Squaw Valley USA] February 12, 2009 - This ski season Helly Hansen is bringing the excitement of all-mountain skiing to select North American resorts with its newest series – The Big Mountain Battle. The unique competition challenges teams of skiers and riders to explore their favorite resort from top to bottom, for a chance to win an all-expense-paid trip to the finals in Aspen/Snowmass. The Big Mountain Battle comes to Squaw Valley USA on February 21, 2009.

The Squaw Valley USA Big Mountain Battle is one of five tour stops. At each stop teams of two take on courses designed by Helly Hansen and Backcountry.com athlete Chris Davenport. Each team (ski, snowboard, or mixed) must complete the hikes. Participants will be using a Flaik GPS device to track their performance. Teams can ski anywhere once they have completed the designated bowls for extra points. The top three teams to complete the hikes, course and checkpoints in the fastest times are awarded prizes. Other categories any team can win after completing the designated bowls include Fastest Hike, Most Vertical, Most Runs and Most Lift Rides. The overall top finishing team wins a trip to Aspen/Snowmass to compete in the Big Mountain Battle Finals on March 24, 2009.

The Squaw Valley USA Big Mountain Battle begins at 10 am on Saturday, February 21. The event entry fee is $75 per team. Lunch and Rogue Beer (for those old enough to indulge), will be provided for all competitors at the awards ceremony, following the competition. Flaik GPS’s will be providing real time stats on each team, and each participant receives Helly Hansen Lifa long underwear pants or shirt. Entry is limited to the first 100 teams to register.
