Groms will rule Bear Mountain for a weekend of shredding, bowling and stardom, as part of Oakley’s Big Day Out series, Saturday January 7th and Sunday January 8th, 2006. Features inspired by Oakley’s snowboard video, “The Community Project, offer creativity for all shred participants of the two-day event. The contest is free to enter and is welcome to riders of all abilities, from junior pro to junior bro, men’s and women’s (20 and under). Registration will take place the morning of the contest on Saturday so make sure to arrive early, as space is limited. There will be a slew of prizes up for grabs from Oakley, Bear Mountain, Snowboarder magazine, ThirtyTwo boots and more! And Saturday evening, an after-party will be held at the Bowling Barn in Big Bear Lake for a night of bowling, pizza and the premiere of The Community Project.

Sunday offers up the promise of “American Idol fame, as one lucky youth will be crowned the Sports Illustrated for Kids Next Snow Search representative (Bear Mountain). Boys and girls age 9-13, both skiers and snowboarders, will compete in one class in the slopestyle setup. Competitors will be judged on style, attitude and sportsmanship in addition to athletic skills. The winner will move on to the nationally-televised event at Keystone, Colorado, on January 27th and 28th, 2006.
