April 20, 2000 Whistler, BC ¿ It was quite a display of incredible talent, close finishes, and world-class boardercross action, at the finals of the Kokanee Boardercross North American Championships. Through a big featured, long, fast and challenging course it was no surprise that the man of the day was International favourite, and third place overall ISF Motorola Pro Tour World Champion, Xavier (Annecy, FRA) taking the gold and $5,000 cash of the $25,000 purse. Canadian Scott Gaffney (Calgary, AB) was solid in his races throughout the day, and came up strong in the finals to take second, while the fastest male in time trials yesterday, Seth Wescott (Kingfield, Maine) stayed speedy and grabbed third.

The ladies proved to be just as fast and flash as the men. Now a two-time winner of the Kokanee Boardercross races this year, and a gold at the Goodwill Games, was Banff local Candice Drouin winning $3,200. Hot on her tail was the fastest woman yesterday, Marni Yamada (Seattle, WA) and Southern Californian favourite Dena Melinn (Wrightwood, CA) filling in second and third place respectively.

It will be a great night at the Garibaldi Lift Company for Robert Fagan and Candice Drouin who will be crowned Tour Champions and will take home $2,500 in cash! Second and third places will be awarded $1,500 and $1,000 each.

The Kokanee Boardercross North American Championship will air on CTV SportsNet and OLN at the end of May.
