DC Shoes, Inc., the leader in performance skateboarding shoes, created two specialty items for its Fall 2004 girls line that were available to consumers starting in October 2004, which coincided with National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of these two items were donated to Boarding For Breast Cancer, a non-profit breast cancer awareness group dedicated to promoting the importance of early breast cancer detection and the value of a healthy lifestyle. The check presentation took place under sunny skies and snow capped mountains at SG Magazine’s annual Queen of the Mountain event on March 12, 2005.
The two items specially designed for the 2004 B4BC promotion were the “H2Zero Avatar BC shoe, a classic girls’ skateboarding shoe with an all weather upgrade, and the pink “Signal BC all-weather snowboarding jacket, featuring a DC custom breast self exam screen print on the inside back panel. The royalties from sales of these items amounted to just over $13,000. Both items incorporated the pink ribbon breast cancer awareness symbol.
“Boarding For Breast Cancer’s close ties to action sports have allowed us to reach thousands of young women across the United States, says Justine Chiara, director of Boarding For Breast Cancer Foundation. “We are grateful for DC Shoes’ generous donation of time, resources, creativity and funding, which will help assure the continued growth and success of this program.
The Girls Division at DC Shoes will continue it’s support of B4BC by co-branding 3 pieces from the Winter 2005 line. Our goal is to assist fundraising efforts and increase visibility of the foundation by getting the B4BC logo out on the slopes. The pieces from Winter 2005 are the “Shenlong (jacket) the “Halo (snowboard boot) and the “Chalet (après snow boot).
